    Do you recommend Proactiv?

I've heard some people SWEAR by Proactiv... and others say that it actually made their skin worse.

I have combination skin, with a slightly oily T-zone...  I have no idea if Proactive would work for me or not.

Did you (or someone you know) use Proactiv?  What kind of skin do you recommend it for?

I have combination dry skin, and used Proactiv for six months.  It cleared me up for about two months and then... nothing!  All my acne came back, full force.  It was as if my skin became immune to it or something, but I have no idea.  I'm about to go out and dry Clinque's Three Step System and see if that doesn't clear up some of the acne.  I heard it was good for oily skins too!!

I never tried Proactiv, but I did try "Acne Free", which, I am guessing, is somewhat like Proactiv. It did work (to get rid of the acne), but after a week and a half of using it, it completely dried my face out to the point of it burning and just being downright painful and useless to use. My skin is normally very oily, that's why I was surprised when my skin reacted this way.

Acne Free is actually even more harsh than Proactiv, but a lot cheaper. When comparing the active ingredients (mostly Benzoyl Peroxide), AF beats out Proactiv by a small percentage, so it's supposed to be "better" than Proactiv, in the sense that it has "more" fighting" power.

I have combination skin and I had a terrible breakout. I tried a number of different products (Clearasil, Neutrogena Oil Free Wash, Neutrogena Wave, etc) but they all made it worse!! I just about gave up, but then my older brother told me when he was younger the only thing that worked for him was Proactiv. I gave it a try, and within a few weeks my face started to clear up. I stopped using it after a month because it really dried my skin out, but once the breakout disappeared I haven't had a major breakout since. While I was using it, I used Clinque's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion after using the Proactiv treatment and it really helped.

A friend of mine had a similar experience, and she used it as I did, and followed up with a good moisturizer and it worked for her too.

I've been using Proactiv for a few years now...I don't think it's perfect, but it definitely helps in keeping my skin fairly clear. I got much better results when occasionally using the cleansing mask in addition to the three steps though, which I haven't bought in a while because it's an additional cost. My only complaint is that it make my skin more sensitive to sunburn, drying out, etc. when it comes to the more extreme cold/heat. They do offer other additional products (a sunscreen, a different moisturizing lotion other than the third step) that may solves those problems. I think it's definitely worth a try, but like every product, it works perfectly for some people and not at all for others.

Proactiv made both my skin and my brother's skin better for a couple weeks, then worse and worse until I stopped using it and -POOF- it cleared up for a while. My skin doesn't usually do well with medicines specifically made for acne. For whatever reason, it just gets worse.

My skin looks its best if I wash it twice a day and keep it moisturized. Otherwise, I get awful breakouts.

Nope.  It made my skin worse and way more sensitive.  I recommend acne.org if you have acne, but if you just have a couple pimples and oily skin, you just need to find a good moisturizer and spot treat.

I really like the face wash, but not so much the toner or moisturizer.  The toner feels like I'm just splashing my face with water.

Proactive pretty much burns your face.. or whatever. My friend used it and did some research on it. and if you stop using it your acne will come back worse, so you pretty much have to keep using it for the rest of your life.

And don't like just keep sending it to you? So they take money away from you even if you don't want it anymore because they'll send the next shipment when they think your bottles should be gone when really your're still half way.

NO! It burned my face. Horribly.

I used Proactiv for a week, but then I started getting itchy red patches on my cheeks. I also have combination skin, so I guess my oily forehead/nose got the bigger end of the stick in that match.

I have heard that people's skin system get used to the Proactiv system quite quickly. They recently just came out with a "New Proactiv". It's the "new formula" but "same" acne fighting power. & by same, I think it might bleach your face off..

I used to just use Clearasil until my sister purchased Proactive which cleared up my face for a few weeks, but after a while the lotion just made my face incredibly greasy. I went back to using Clearasil for spot treating, but I still use the Proactiv Oil Control and the sulfur face mask :)

    I don't think it's worth shelling out $50 though.

I used proactiv, but then I heard that it's the 10% benzoyl peroxide that does the work.  Instead, in addition to my regular routine of washing my face at mourning and night and moisurizing, I use clearasil 10%  benzoyl peroxide.  Works even better for me than proactiv did. Moral of the story: look at the active ingredient list in your products.  You can probably find a drugstore brand similar.

NO. I do NOT reccomend it. Go see a dermatologist, they will give you the correct stuff for the type of acne you have.
