    How to keep hair straight?

I have straight-wavy hair. sometimes, i straighten my hair and after a few minutes or so, it'll start to curl a little bit.

Is it because my hair is already touching my shoulders and causes it to curl? Or do I need to spray something for it to stay?

the key is to apply as little heat as possible to your hair before you straighten it. if you have enough time, don't blowdry it. if you have to blowdry it, apply a shine serum (paul mitchell super skinny serum is wonderful) and a heat protectant spray (i love john frieda's "heat defeat" for straight styles) (still apply the same products if you don't blowdry your hair, just for protection from the heat). make sure you're not using a cheap iron as well. your iron should be quality ceramic and/or infused with tourmaline. straightening your hair in little sections to get it the straightest. when you're done, spray some hair spray onto your hair and blowdry it cold to set the style in. if your hair is curling mostly at the ends, it may not be a problem with the straightener, rather your ends are dead.

I have the same problem. When I got my hair cut and I got a more expensive straightener, the problem was solved. Just splurge on a nice straightener and get a hair trim.

I don't think length affects it all that much. When you blow dry your hair, are you blow drying it straight with a thick brush? If your hair is thick enough to hold a product, then I would recommend using them. Then of course top off with a flat iron.

yes, i do blow it straight down but it still curls. i have thick hair too but i don't know of any good product to keep my hair straight. but thanks anyway! :)

I had this problem too, honestly the only way I found to solve it is to upgrade to a better flat iron.

I agree with bellaglam. The really cheap hair straighteners don't get as hot as the nicer, more expensive ones. I also have wavy/curly hair and mine used to do the same before I bought my Chi. Also, try using some type of product to help keep it straight throughout the day.

I always use a straightening iron on my hair as opposed to the blow dryer, because A) I shower at nights and do my hair in the morning, and B) my hair takes FOREVER to blow dry. On a straightening iron it is extremely important to make sure that you have ceramic plates (usually a goldish color) as opposed to metal (which are usually silver). Metal straightening irons take forever to heat up and work horribly. I don't know why they make them.

Use a good straightner. Buy some products that match your hair type the bottles will say that on the front.

Spray some heat protector on to your hair before and during straightening.

Then afterwards use some serim or something to maintain the style and a light spritz of hairspray, not too much though you are not going for the corrigated cardboard look.

Make sure to use a heat protectant before you straighten it, then go over the sections two or three times each. At the end, put on flexible hair spray or some kind of holding creme. Hopefully, that will help you a little more.

so when straightening, do i have to hold it slightly longer, if yes, for how long? and when sectioning, am i suppose to section into thin parts?

What I do- After I get out of the shower I use a wet-to-straight hair straightener to dry my hair. The point is to keep frizziness down, it doesn't have to be straight after using it, just dry. Then I use my chi straightener until my hair is pin point straight and perfectly dry. If I want it to be shiny, then I spray hair spray on a brush and brush it through. This is just what I do, but it might help. I have very wavy, frizzy hair.

I was thinking about permanent straightening but not sure if it's worth the money as my hair is like straight but half curled... I just straighten my hair before i sleep for abuot 30 minutes haha... And the next morning it's fine and straightened! :) Or when it's partially wet + straightening.

The best styling product I can recommend is Phyto's hair relaxing balm. It's consistency is like a light gel, but it's MUCH healthier than anything I've ever used for your hair. Even if you use entirely too much, you'll never know! It keeps my hair frizz free and straight even through humidity and just about everything else, really. You can tell a difference right away and it makes you fall in love with Phyto :)

Also, try straightening smaller sections at a time. That way the heat's more concentrated, and if you've got a heat protectant (which you should) it'll make much more difference in the overall look.

finding a good straightener is your solution. blow drying my hair causes it to just be all poofy and afro-looking, so after that i use my chi, and straighten it, ends up looking awsome and feels super silky.

you can find great products and reviews on here:

your length could have something to do with it. my hair , when it was shoulder length, would always flip up later because my shoulders were pushing it up .

You probably need a hotter flat iron. Spraying some hair spray on your brush and then combing/brushing through your hair lightly can help too.

Maybe you're trying to straighten too much hair at one time? Therefore, you're not getting the full effect? Otherwise invest in a more expensive one!

before you straighten your hair, spray on a heat protectant/styling spray to hold the style (i really like FX special effects flat iron spray, which is like $5 at drugstores), then brush through it and straighten small sections, concentrating on the ends.

Good straightener is key; at least for me.
Spend a little more money on a nice straightener and it will pay off.
My hair used to go wavy/curly within the hour, and now it stays straight all day, even without product.
