Go ahead and date him. If it works out, you can go for the long distance thing. Sometimes it works for people. If you don't try, you won't ever know, and it might bother you later.

As long as you don't get too serious and you make the basis of the relationship clear from the start I don't see a problem.
I have a bf at college and still keep things going with my bf back home from before - it can be fun!
